PRC's Traveling Glass Recycling Bin

Starting on May 29, The Pennsylvania Resource Council (PRC) is expanding glass recycling resources in Southwestern PA by piloting their contact-free Traveling Glass Bin collection service and helping municipalities establish permanent glass drop-off sites. These sites are open to the public, and users will not be turned away based on municipality of residence.  For information on all the dates and all the sites, please click here.

The Traveling Glass Recycling Bin will be at Sewickley Riverfront Park (357 Chadwick Street) from Saturday, September 25 - Thursday, September 30 - 7 a.m. - sundown daily.  This event is sponsored by The Quaker Valley Council of Governments, the Borough of Sewickley, Owens-Illinois, Inc., and CAP Glass.  Please click here for more information.

What to expect:

The event is contact free and self-serve.  Volunteers and staff will NOT be available to deposit your glass for you.  Anticipate having to deposit containers into the bin yourself (about 4 feet off the ground).

  • All colors of glass bottles, jars and jugs ONLY are accepted
  • Caps, lids and labels are acceptable
  • Empty all containers
  • Any boxes bags, etc. that were used to carry the glass must be taken off site for disposal.  Please take your containers or bags home for disposal or reuse.
  • PRC will monitor sites remotely at all times and will make regular maintenance visits throughout the week.

The following items are NOT acceptable:

  • Cut glass
  • Glass bakeware
  • Mirrors
  • Porcelain and ceramic
  • Stemware
  • Light bulbs
  • TVs
  • Window glass
  • All other materials including recyclables

Feel good about recycling properly because glass from separated collections will be back on your store shelves in just a few months!
