Zero Waste Wrangler

Cowboy on a horse wrangling a white compost bucket

Food scraps and expired food are a fact of life. When they are sent to the landfill they are, at best, trapped with a mix of toxic and non-recyclable trash for decades. At worst, they break down and release methane into the atmosphere which is a potent greenhouse gas. Southwest Pennsylvania is an importer of trash because of its low cost of landfilling. The same economics that allow Southwest Pennsylvania to be a regional and national dumping ground also prevent the movement towards more sustainable waste handling practices.

A Kickstarter campaign was implemented to see if we can make curbside weekly food scraps collection and composting happen with your help! All the costs of collection, transportation and processing are included in this campaign for at least 90 residents (You!) to receive weekly service for a year.  We've decided to focus on the three municipalities of Edgeworth, Sewickley and Glen Osborne. See the map of the pilot to find out if your house is in the pilot area.

This is an all or nothing campaign. Supporters will get their money back if we are unable to reach our goal.  The campaign goal is to get around 90 households committed to the project. Be one of the 90!
