When do I need a Building Permit?

Construction in the Borough of Sewickley requires a permit from the Building Inspector.  A printable Building Permit Application may be downloaded from our website.  Other related applications along with the required fee can be downloaded at your convenience from the Forms, Permits & Applications page.

Every business and enterprise shall obtain an Occupancy Permit from the Zoning Officer.  The cost of the permit is $100.

All business/enterprises advertisement shall obtain a Sign Permit and comply with the Sign Ordinance.

Commercial buildings and/or additions shall comply with the Subdivision & Land Development Ordinance #1310.

The Historic Review Commission shall approve all building permits for exterior construction from the 3 historic districts

The Zoning Ordinance and the Official Zoning Maps (updated May 16, 2016) specify all restrictions in each zoning district.

The Storm Water Management Ordinance regulates all storm water. Additions less than 5,000 sq. ft. shall comply with PA Dry Wells approved by DEP.

Submission and meeting dates for the Historic Review Commission, Planning Commission, and the Zoning Hearing Board are available.

Street Opening Permits are subject to Ordinance #1271.

The installation of a solar energy system shall comply with the 2009 energy Efficiency Code or Table PA1103.1 of the Pennsylvania's Alternative Residential Energy Provisions.

Property Maintenance Issues

  • Grass shall not exceed 6 inches in height and yards shall be maintained.
  • Snow and ice are to be removed from all sidewalks within 24 hours of snowfall.
  • Garbage is not to be placed out for pick up until the night before service.
